Pancake Rocks

Working our way up the West Coast, we made a stop at Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks). Our Kiwi friends Mike and Kylie demanded we stop. If we didn’t comply, the door would be slammed in our face when we visit them in a few weeks. We are really glad that we stopped here as nature has created a beautiful coastline.

Over the years the water has shaped some of the rocks to look like tall stacks of thin pancakes. Other rocks look like animals or human faces. The amazing New Zealand parks department has made a beautiful walkway that takes you through ever-changing vegetation on your way out to the top of the rocks. We’ve been lacking a bit on the photo side the last few days, so here we go:

Stunning.

Where's the Syrup?

Rocks and Water.

Jungle Walk.

Hanna and Mike/Mike's Jheri Curl.

  1. Wow! You actually walked the Truman Track. Awesome. We haven’t been there in ages. Totally one of my favourite places in the world. So, Punakaiki, was I right?

  2. Love pancake rocks!!! Again….sigh. Great pic of the two of you, as well!

  3. Wow…kind of looks like Bryce Canyon NP… it’s really beautiful… Is it humid there? (the curl)

  4. I just got caught up with Sydney through Punakaiki all in one shot. Hanna: I’m glad to see you are feeling better. There’s a bright side…at least you didn’t get stuck being sick in Haast – imagine 10 days there. Thanks to you both for showing what nice places Australia and New Zealand are to visit. LOVED all the pictures. – Rachel R.

  5. I just heard that there was an earthquake at 1pm on Tue, Feb 22 in Christchurch. It was a 6.3. Close call. -Rachel R.
